Powered Industrial Truck and Fork Lift Certification


Written and practical exam.

Place: Miller Brewing - Milwaukee Campus

Focus of training:

  • Pre-op safety inspection is performed once per shift for each forklift operated.
    • Check that the horn functions.
    • Check the steering mechanism with the engine running.
    • Check the breaks.
    • Check the seat brake.
    • Check the hydraulic lines, controls-lift, and tilt levers.
    • Check the racks and cage.
    • Check the tires.
    • Check headlamps, tail lights, brake lights, and back up lights.
  • All defects are to be logged daily and notify the garage.
  • Wear proper personal protection equipment.
  • Make sure you can see.
  • Load pick-up
  • Driving load
  • Setting down a load
  • Lower loads to move
  • Be aware of obstacles, both ahead and overhead.
  • Be aware of load centers.
  • Be aware of the total capacity.
  • Do not exceed load center.
  • Tilting the load forward reduces the load stability and can cause damage to the forks
  • Never travel with load in raised position.
  • Never leave a truck unattended farther than 25 feet away.
  • When finished always ground the forks with the tips touching the floor.
  • When starting always raise forks before driving.
  • No one should ever walk near or under a load.
